Class of 2017

There have been many moments just like this one where I have stood right here in this gym with butterflies in my stomach. We have not even officially graduated yet and I already get flashbacks to these nerve-racking moments as I look through this orange and black gym. Moments like these will be the ones that many of us carry in our hearts forever. Seeing this gym makes me beyond thankful for all of the people who have shaped my life in some form. It is hard to believe that I did not even know most of you. For me, it illustrates just how powerful God’s plan can be for someone. Completely unpredictable at times, but His plan is definitely greater than any I could’ve come up with. Here, I have had the pleasure of meeting my peers, my now closest friends, my coaches, and the wonderful staff here at Chalker High School. Lastly, I would like to extend one last thank you to my family and closest friends that make up my support group. Without their love and continuous support, I would not have been shaped into the person that I am and I would not be standing here today. So thank you guys, and I love you. ~Brittany Davis

This is a big moment in our lives, getting ready to graduate, but when we are older we will look back to these thirteen years as a short part of our life. People are telling us we are going to miss these past years, and I am sure there will be memories that are missed. However, if you live your life how you dream of living it, we should only look back to see the great choices we made not the ones we should have made. Be what you want to be and do what you want to do. If you are going to live the life you want to live you will see the real picture because you are in it, you will understand reality because you are living it, and the truth will not be tough anymore. If you work hard you, all of us, can accomplish anything. Become anything but do it because you want to. A tough but truthful quote from The Shawshank Redemption explains it all, “Get busy living or get busy dying.” ~Mitchell Plott

Graduation is a time of reflecting on the past and moving onward. After today the next chapter of our lives will finally begin. As we look back on our 13 years of growing up and of having many laughs together, I know this class will be one I never forget. So many friendships, memories, and laughs have been made and I wouldn’t have wanted to make them with any other class but ours. My best advice to you is pick your passion and stay determined. Nothing you do that has a rewarding outcome is going to be easy. Thomas Edison once said. “The three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are first hard work, second stick-to-itiveness, and third common sense.” We have all applied these three essentials to graduate today. I encourage you all to continue to work hard and know that although these next few years will be difficult at times, that you can do whatever you set your mind to. Thank you again and congratulations class of 2017. ~Christian Romigh

Thank you to all of the teachers, counselors, and administration here at Southington. I never doubted whether I would be cared about or taken care of here. Without your guidance and help, none of us would be here today. Thank you also to my friends and classmates for making these years so memorable and fun. Lastly and most importantly, I’d like to thank my Lord and Savior for blessing me so abundantly. As this year progressed and the light at the end of the tunnel was visible I also realized that while I was busy wishing this time away, I should have been busy taking in each and every moment of the year. Looking back, these four years of high school seemed to have gone by in the blink of an eye. I want to tell you, to savor each and every moment. Seize new opportunities and seek new experiences. In the blink of an eye, it will pass you by. Eckhart Tolle wrote, “Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have.” Lastly, I believe there are great things in store for each and every one of us. Good luck Class of 2017 and congratulations! ~Kaylin Shackelford
