A little about myself...

A little about myself...

My name is Jennifer Doan. I married my high school sweetheart, Brad Doan, and together we have an 11 year-old daughter named Riley.

I began teaching at Southington in 2005. I taught kindergarten for 2 years before we relocated to North Carolina. Then, in 2013 my family and I decided to return to Ohio to be closer to our families and I was beyond excited to return to Southington as a Title 1 reading teacher. Over the last few years I have worked with students in kindergarten through 5th grade. This year I am entering my second year teaching  4th grade ELA and 5th grade Science.

4th Grade Science Curriculum

Science Curriculum

Pearson Interactive Science is our new science curriculum for the 2016-2017 school year. This curriculum has many aspects that I LOVE! We are able to do hands-on experiments and integrate technology with every lesson! "Research has shown that when students are fully engaged in their learning, they feel a greater sense of ownership resulting in increased achievement." (Pearson Education, Inc.)

Each student has their own access to the curriculum online through PearsonRealize.com. This resource will provide students with extra vocabulary practice, experiment ideas, videos to help them understand the content, and so much more! If you need help logging in at home, please don't hesitate to contact me! katelyn.brown@neomin.org

This 4th grade curriculum prepares them for the 5th grade AIR test. Most of the content they learn this year will be state-tested next year.

  • Fossils can be compared to one another and to present-day organisms according to their similarities and differences.

Physical Science

  • The total amount of matter is conserved when it undergoes a change.
  • Energy can be transformed from one form to another or can be transferred from one location to another.

In 5th grade, all students are state-tested in science. We have a lot of content to cover before April! The Interactive Science curriculum provides us with an easy transition from 4th to 5th grade and connects a lot of 4th grade topics with this years standards. I know we will rock this test! Closer to the testing dates, April 26th & 27th, I will be sending home study guides with specific content that the students need to know. Thank you ahead in advance for your cooperation and continued support at home!
